Advertisement analysis

This advertisement is for a German job distribution company. This campaign was launched in 2006, 2007 and 2008 by the company Scholz & Friends, it has won several prizes for product promotion.

There are several other pictures of the like but I chose this one because it was the clearest and portrays the point of the advertisement at the best level. The picture shows a woman at a cash machine just waiting for her money eagerly looking at the screen. On the side of the machine we a see a man in a small cabin on a small stool with a small table and a whole lot of other things crammed with him inside. He has in one hand a very long bill and with the other writing down some calculations in a heft which is placed on his knee. By the looks of his clothes and sweat covered forehead we can conclude that he has had a long and stressful working day under the given conditions. There is also a pictogram on the picture with writing that reads: “Life’s too short for the wrong job!” this comes alongside with the web address of the company: jobsintown.de.

The advertisement was made by the company mentioned above who was given the job of making a new effective campaign by jobsintown. Obviously this ad positively contributes to the company it is promoting. The main target audience of this advertisement would be young people looking for proper jobs but could be widened to a greater spectrum of anyone who is looking for a job. This advertisement is telling us that we just basically don’t live long enough to do some job that we hate and that is in a bad working environment. When we see this we are at first shocked of what kind of work the man is doing in the machine and are horrified of the place. We regain our normal thinking once we read the written message that comes with it we immediately understand what we are supposed to do: If we don’t want a poor job like the man in the picture we should refer to jobsintown if we are looking for one. There is possibly some bandwagon technique in this picture that tells us that if we don’t use jobintown to search for jobs we might end up as a loser like the man in the picture this creates a sort of fear inside of us. The ad gives us a clear message that seems very logical and can easily be understood this maybe disillusions many people from the actual cause of it. As there are not many, if any job distribution companies in Germany that have so much promotion assuming that one is looking for a job and comes across this ad he/she would surely refer to this company, we can consider it as highly effective.

  2. Good start David, but look at the ad again and read the descriptions of techniques. Band wagon is more along the lines of "everyone is doing it, so should you."
    Good selection of ad.
